Grief doesn’t follow rules.
It doesn’t move in straight lines.
And it certainly doesn’t ask for permission before changing your life forever.
In this heartfelt episode of Linda’s Corner: Inspiration for a Better Life — airing April 7, 2026 — we welcome Ksenia Merck: artist, architect, creative storyteller, and publisher, whose journey through profound loss became a powerful story of love, legacy, and healing through creativity.
When Loss Comes in Waves

Ksenia’s grief journey began with the heartbreaking loss of her mother. Before she had time to fully process that pain, life delivered another devastating blow: her husband, Bill, was diagnosed with cancer.
Eventually, Bill passed away — leaving behind not only memories, but an unfinished manuscript.
For many, that manuscript might have become a painful reminder tucked away in a drawer. But for Ksenia, it became something else entirely:
A calling. A mission. An act of love.
A Love Letter Continued
Bill’s manuscript would later become Ghostflower — a book Ksenia chose to bring into the world through her own artwork and dedication. As she worked through the pages, something extraordinary happened.
She began to see their shared life reflected in the story — in the characters, emotions, and experiences woven throughout the narrative. The book started to feel like a love letter from Bill to her.
And through her illustrations and commitment to publishing his work, Ksenia wrote a love letter back.
This wasn’t just publishing.
This was healing in motion.
Creativity as a Path Through Grief
Ksenia shares that immersing herself in a creative project became a vital part of her healing. Instead of trying to “move on,” she chose to move with her grief — giving it expression, shape, and meaning.
Her journey is a gentle but powerful reminder that:
There is no one “correct” way to grieve
There is no deadline for healing
Grief doesn’t have to be silenced — it can be expressed
Through creativity, Ksenia found a way to stay connected to love rather than only the loss.
A Journal for Healing and Reflection
Beyond the book, Ksenia created a companion journal to help readers explore their own emotions and experiences. The journal offers space to:
Reflect on personal loss
Process complex emotions
Discover meaning in difficult seasons
Engage with grief instead of avoiding it
It’s an invitation to turn pain into reflection, and reflection into growth.
Gentle Guidance for Anyone Navigating Loss
In this episode, Ksenia offers compassionate encouragement for anyone walking through grief:
Find purpose and meaning — even in small ways
Honor the life and legacy of your loved one
Express your grief authentically — not how others expect you to
Keep moving forward, one step at a time
Grief changes us. That part is unavoidable. But as Ksenia shows us, it can also open the door to deeper connection, creativity, and transformation.
Sometimes, the most beautiful things we create are born from the deepest love.
