Select people who have served in the U.S. Army say serving is getting a different rap than before. Recruiters say, in turn, this has made it harder to get people to join.

“They’re still at the strength they’re required to be, but it is becoming more difficult, as their recruiting is not meeting the targets that they would like for them to meet.” says Army Veteran, Bill Merck.

Merck says The U.S. Army has fallen short of anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 recruits, since 2022, comparing this to other military sectors, which have reportedly received more engagement.

He says people including the U.S. Department of Defense Secretary, Christine Wormuth, has been doing a number of things to combat the issue. This includes a future soldier’s prep. course, which works with potential recruits. “…They’ve had a high success rate of being able to bring those folks up to meet the standards, to allow them to join.” Merck says.
